Play Network Games
  This section covers setting up and joining IPX network games.  It is split into two sections :

 

If you have any problems with your network set-up or encounter errors when following this guide please check out the 'Network Troubleshooting' section of this Help system.

How To Host

  1. Get your friends round and set up Redline Racer on the network (see 'Install/Uninstall').
  2. Start Redline Racer and ensure that all players enters a name (so you can see who's who in the game).
  3. From the main menu, click on 'Network'.
  4. Next, choose the connection type (in this case choose 'IPX for Direct Play').
  5. Next, create a new game for other to join by clicking on 'Create'. 
  6. You will then be presented with the network game screen and will be able to change the track on which the game will be played.  The other players can only change their bikes.
  7. As other players join the game their names will be listed on the left of the screen.
  8. You can 'talk' to other players by typing in the box next to your name.  Other peoples messages appear next to their names.
  9. When everyone has joined and you have chosen your track and bike, just press 'OK' and you and the other players will race.
  10. The game will continue until all the players have crossed the finish line.  Then, you will be presented with the game results screen. Once you are returned to the 'network game' screen you are ready to race again.

How To Join

  1. Run Redline Racer and make sure you enter a name (this is used to recognise you on the network).
  2. From the main menu click on the 'Network' button.
  3. Choose the service provider you need (in this case 'IPX for Direct Play').
  4. Next, you'll be presented with a list of the available games. Choose the one you wish to play and click on 'Join'.
  5. If there are no games available then you can either wait for a new game to be started by someone else or you could host your own (see 'How to Host above).
  6. On the Network Game screen you can see a list of people who are in your game and you can 'talk' to them by clicking in the box by your name and typing a message.  Their reply appears next to their name.
  7. Now choose a bike and look at the track picture to see which track the Host has chosen.
  8. Now just wait until the Host starts the game and then race!
  9. The race will end when everyone has crossed the finish line.
  10. Then, you'll get a race results screen before being taken back to the Network Game screen where you can race again.
